The WMSU University Theatre Guild (UTG) is composed of college students who act, sing, and dance on stage to entertain audiences and advocate causes through straight plays, musical plays, and dance theatre. UTG caters to all types of audiences. It focuses on other theatre genres like drama, comedy, horror, and fantasy, injecting the local culture and flavor.
The group usually does fringe plays and productions. Fringe plays are short plays usually written by the UTG Moderator to perform in a specific event or program, while productions are big plays that typically last for more than an hour, considering some requirements like lights, sounds, costumes, props, and sets. There are ready-made scripts for theatre productions.
Aside from performing arts, UTG members can do stage, production, and technical management, including lights and sounds, script writing, costume, props, and set making. UTG also does short films and radio drama productions. Members are trained in performing arts and production aspects, making them unique and versatile. They have undergone workshops and training with renowned theatre directors of different theatre organizations and companies in the Philippines.
